Longevity

MessageAuthor

The XC90 is obviously a lot heavier than cars like the V70 and S60 (XC90 approx 2t, XC70 approx 1.7t), so there is bound to be additional stress. However, if you get the ATF changed at 40-50k mile intervals then all should be well. If you fancy doing it yourself then do a search for "Gibbon's method". The XC90 is on the same platform as the 98-06 S80, the 00-07 V70/XC70 and the S60. Obviously the interior and body panels are quite a bit different, but the oily bits are much the same.

RE: Longevity

Has anyone done this on an xc90? I did my s80 a few yeras ago and couldn't beleive the colour of the old oil compared to the new, but i've since developed a very small transmission oil leak which i can't see where from despite numerous attempts to find it. I would like to do the xc90 as i do tow with it as well but am a bit scared to mess about with an 18 grand motor. Reassurance needed please from anyone who's done it on an xc90 Any further advice regarding which oil to use would be great. Thanks.

RE: Longevity

Two important questions: what's the model year and what engine do you have? 6 cylinder engines have a different gearbox (and require different oil) and newer cars don't have a dipstick on the autobox, which makes life very difficult for changing the oil...

Should be the same as all the other AW55-50/51 cars then. JWS 3309 spec oil (search for more info) and if it has a dipstick then the standard Gibbon's Method will work just fine.
